前童木构榫卯再生 Qian Tong House

引 INTRO

宁波市宁海县西南角的前童古镇, 明清建筑群落保留完好，八卦水系叮叮咚咚穿镇而过。其中有一小块约7x7 米的宅基地在主街的转角处，虽然只有巴掌点儿大，却占据着黄金的地理标段。2015年3月，古镇政府希望委托建筑师来重新设计建造一座木头房子。当我在构思这座新的木建筑时，我在思考如何为古镇安一颗年轻的心。我们应该如何继续去挥舞木头，继续去营造一个“既符合当代审美、能够容纳现代⽣活的空间”,能够让这个房子站在老房子旁边既不同样老朽、又不过显突兀, 好似祖孙并肩而立一般呢？

Qian Tong House is assembled, without any nail or glue, by Chinese traditional carpenters on site with 136 separate wood components prefabricated by 5-axis CNC machine. An evolved Chinese wood structure of mortise-tenon joints is practiced combining modern processing techniques with ancient oriental esthetics. In this way, the philosophy of sustainability is proposed: circular construction and in-place rebirth based on the life cycle of both human and trees.

The three poetic wood structures designed and constructed by ZSYZ: the wide pavilion, the sunning shelves, and the tea porch, balance the wildness of the nature, and build up work and recreation space for tea making men.
Three wood structures, gently implanted in the tea gallery, set a benchmark for the poetic living environment, and contribute to the whole atmosphere of the gallery which becomes clear, harmonious, and alive with spirits.

如果就这样修旧如初，是否真的适合这个已经步入城镇化潮流的新村？有限的时间与经费是否能够真正做到修旧如初？与其修缮的仓促粗糙，何不保留这沧桑的精美？在十分有限的工程经费与建设周期中，我们既然无法严谨的考证传统的建造工艺，做到一丁点儿不走样的“修旧如初”，何不避免修护式破坏，将老祠堂封存起来的策略可能更适合这个项目：废墟式保护。

We are committed to the regain of the former glory of the ancient ancestral halls, the head of the village. To crown them again as the prominent landmark in the village, an innovative cable-suspended steel-timber frame system with tall wood columns and a 965㎡glass roof are structured to connect the two relics as one. 78 wood columns form a matrix integrated with a flexible but stable steel cable structure to protect the ancestral halls, and it holds up a giant umbrella to save the relics from the rain. In the process of protection and renovation, it is tricky to grasp good control of the balance between old and new. As hard as we tried to restore the record of time through the clues we could explore, we are still committed to updating some proper innovated progresses to it. The touch of time on old trees, old alleyways, and old houses must be conserved, while the “new” modern infrastructures and living functions should be implanted into it.
